What would happen if the Colombian Caribbean were flooded? To address the threat of climate change and rising sea levels, this project constructs a fiction. It presents itself as the historical and archaeological recreation of an event that never happened, but which still remains in the popular imagination as a local omen. Using tools traditionally associated with "truth" and memory, such as cartographic illustration and documentary photography, I have created a large-format installation composed of multiple media. The result is a space that blends the language of the historical document with the resources of fiction. The project invites reflection on urgent issues of our present: the impact of climate change and the alarming phenomenon of rising ocean levels, as well as the traces of postcolonialism in the way the Latin American territory has been exploited and represented.
¿Qué pasaría si el Caribe colombiano se inundara? Para abordar la amenaza del cambio climático y el aumento del nivel del mar, este proyecto construye una ficción. Se presenta como la recreación histórica y arqueológica de un acontecimiento que nunca ocurrió, pero que sigue presente en el imaginario popular como un presagio local. Utilizando herramientas tradicionalmente asociadas con la «verdad» y la memoria, como la ilustración cartográfica y la fotografía documental, construí una instalación de gran formato compuesta por múltiples formatos. El resultado es un espacio virtual que fusiona los recursos el lenguaje histórico con los recursos de la fabulación narrativa. De esta manera, el proyecto invita a reflexionar sobre asuntos urgentes que impactan el territorio: el impacto del cambio climático y el alarmante fenómeno del aumento del nivel del mar, así como las huellas del poscolonialismo en la forma en que se ha explotado y representado el paisaje latinoamericano.
